Building the design system for an internal project management tool

This project is under NDA!

This project is under an NDA. You know how it goes - new startups are very protective about their ideas and only share it with a few people that they can trust. There is a close knit group of people that are building this idea to life. As this project is still in it's early development stages, I cannot share any more information about the speficis of the tool we built. However, I would be happy to discuss my role and my learnings over a call.

About

Protive is a SaaS project management tool designed to streamline workflows and boost team collaboration. With an intuitive interface and robust features, Protive simplifies task management, scheduling, and resource allocation. Its real-time updates and integrated communication tools ensure seamless collaboration, empowering teams to achieve project milestones efficiently.

The Challenge

Protive recognized the pressing need for a cohesive design system. The absence of such a system posed significant challenges to its usability and scalability. Without a standardized framework, inconsistencies in interface elements and visual cues were hindering the user experience. Protive acknowledged the critical role of a robust design system in enhancing product cohesion and streamlining workflows.

Problem Statement

How might we create a cohesive design system for the protive platform to ensure consistent user experiences, streamline workflows, and facilitate future scalability while maintaining visual coherence and usability across all features and interfaces?

My Learnings

  • This project had a short timeline, but we had a lot to figure out. Things were made easier because we were collaborating with an internal design team. Our biggest challenge was trying to create a system for all the data indicators on the platform. "Humanising" the data insights was the key USP of this product and we wanted to ensure that this system was unique and engaging.

  • A lot of back and forth happened with the tech teams to identify how to create a system that works hand in hand with the Mantine library such that it is easy and efficient to implement.
